Choosing a Makeup Artist to help you look and feel amazing on one of the most important days of your life is a pretty tough decision to make, there are many Artists around but how do you go about choosing the right one for you?
Recommendations from friends and family is really important but also looking at Professional websites and social media pages showing how a Makeup Artist present themselves and their portfolios is equally important. You will be able to tell straight away if their style is what you are looking for based on their previous work.
Once you have made your decision about who you are going to book my advice as a Professional would be to arrange a trial ahead of the Wedding Day, in fact I would highly recommend it.
Though it may seem like an additional cost to you there are many benefits of having a trial.
Firstly you will want to take the time to get to know each other to see if you are a good fit and if the Artist understands and can demonstrate what you are looking for, the last thing you want is to hire someone just for the Wedding Day who you don't actually like and who has not listened to what you want. Not only will it make you feel uncomfortable but it can be awkward and that is definitely not something you want on the morning of your wedding.
A trial will give you the opportunity to sit down and discuss in detail exactly what you would like and have one or two looks carried out. You may be feeling anxious about how you might look on your wedding day so it is perfect to use the Trial as an opportunity to nip any nerves or concerns in the bud and get the look you dreamed of.
If you don't have a look in mind then that's OK even more of a reason to have a trial. No-one really wants to go into their big day not knowing how they are going to look and more importantly if they are going to like it. It takes a lot to put your trust in someone else but rest assured wedding makeup artists have plenty of experience and knowledge of creating an amazing long-lasting look.
Another key reason to book a trial is to give the Artist a chance to see what your skin is like. It gives us the opportunity to try out different products on you and see how they sit on your skin and last during the day and evening. If something is not working out or we feel we can make amendments to improve the overall look a trial gives us that time to make those decisions.
I have done bridal makeup without trials a few times and thankfully the makeup has gone without a hitch but that doesn't mean it will be the same every single time. Sometimes there is just not enough time during the morning of the Wedding to make changes especially when you have a whole bridal party to attend to so that is worth baring in mind if you are considering not booking a trial.
How I Like To Work
I personally no longer take bookings without a trial as I feel it is so important to know what the bride would like, what products are best suited and to also give the opportunity to meet you and get to know you and your personality and likewise for you to get to know me too.
During a trial with me one of the things I like to discuss is your current skincare routine, it doesn't have to be amazing but it gives me the chance to help you to make adjustments in the run up to the wedding day which will not only improve your skin but it will also go a long way with helping the makeup to apply smoother and look better.
I understand that costs all add up when planning a wedding and I see why some brides feel it is not necessary to book a trial but I would honestly think twice about that decision and make the budget.
